The Wine House is the first Approved Program Provider of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET ) in Los Angeles, the world’s premier wine education organization. Only at The Wine House, students can earn all the four official WSET credentials: Level 1 – Foundation Certificate, Level 2 – Intermediate Certificate, Level 3- Advanced Certificate and Level 4 Diploma. All instructors hold the WSET Diploma, MS or MW titles.

Description
This entry-level course teaches the basics of wine, in a format specially designed for those with no previous wine knowledge. Ideal for consumers or those new to wine. Foundation focuses on the main styles of wines available, tasting technique, wine and food pairing as well as wine etiquette. The class consists of ONE session of 6 hours and concludes with a short multiple-choice exam.

Description
The Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 3 Advanced Certificate course is intended to provide in-depth knowledge of a wide range of wines and spirits and is open to students who hold the WSET Level 2 Intermediate Certificate or can demonstrate knowledge at Intermediate level through completion of equivalent education courses or sufficient wine trade experience. The WSET course covers wines of the world in considerable depth over 35 hours. All sessions include tastings. The WSET Advanced Certificate is a unitized course and requires students to prove competency in theory and tasting. The examination for the Advanced Certificate is in two parts, a theory examination of 50 multiple-choice questions and four short-answer questions and a tasting examination consisting of a blind tasting of two wines. The WSET recommends that students complete at least 56 hours of personal study outside the classroom hours during their course of study. The WSET Advanced Certificate is a prerequisite for students wishing to progress to the Level 4 Diploma Course. Students cannot enroll in a Diploma course until they have passed the Advanced Certificate.

Description
The Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2 Intermediate Certificate course is intended as vocational training in product knowledge for those employed in the drinks industry but who have little previous knowledge of the broad range of alcoholic beverages available. The qualification is suitable wherever a good level of product knowledge is required to underpin job skills and competencies. The WSET Intermediate Certificate course is also appropriate for those not employed in the drinks industry but who want a serious education in wine, and wish to broaden their knowledge in a structured way. Wine tasting is a part of every class. The course includes 16 tuition hours, study materials, exam in our venue in West Los Angeles and tasting of over 30 wines. The WSET recommends that students complete at least 14 hours of personal study outside the classroom hours during their course of study.

Description
The Spanish  Wine Scholar is the official curriculum for Spanish  wine by the Wine Scholar Guild . It is designed to provide current, accurate information on the wine regions of Spain to the wine trade in a fun and informative format. Wine professionals and enthusiasts who follow this in-depth curriculum on the wines of Spain and pass the exam, will earn the resume-building Spanish Wine Scholar (SWS) post-nominal & certificate. The exam is given in multiple-choice format. There are 100 questions covering all of the wine regions of Spain . Passing score is 75.

The Levels

The classes are a progression, beginning with Foundation, an introductory course to wine. Intermediate Certificate, Advanced Certificate and Diploma follow. Each of these levels covers the entire world of wine including viticulture, vinification, and appellation labeling laws, as well as wine-tasting technique. The Advanced Certificate is a strict prerequisite for Diploma.

Refunds

If you cancel your place before the course begins you will receive a refund of the class fee, less a 10% cancellation fee. If we have sent out the materials kit to you, you must return it, complete and unused, in order to receive full credit. Registration and shipping fees are not refundable.

If you cancel after the class begins, no refunds apply. However, your registration is fully transferable to another person for the same course and session, subject to qualification.

Time of Classes

All evening classes begin at 6.30 p.m. and run until 9.30pm. All Day classes begin at 9.00am and run until 6.00pm with a one hour break at 1.00pm.

Makeup Examination Dates

If you are not able to take your Intermediate or Advanced Certificate examination on the scheduled date, you may participate in the next scheduled exam, space permitting (the exam dates are listed in the class schedules); unless you give us 15 Business Days notice that you will not sit the exam on your original date, additional fees apply. If you want to arrange for a private makeup exam at another time, proctor fees apply in addition to any exam fees. Please call or email us for more information. You must reserve a seat for any regularly-scheduled examination by notifying The Wine House at least 15 Business Days before the date you plan to take the exam.
